1. What is CTT | Live
CTT | Live is a free, fully integrated results app for time trial organisers. It lets you publish live results as riders finish, giving competitors and spectators instant updates on phones, tablets, or big screens. At the same time, it cuts down on admin - with results uploading directly to the CTT website at the push of a button.
Designed for both Open and Club events, CTT | Live is simple to use and built with organisers in mind. The app displays both the overall result and result by category on a fully customisable leader board. You can capture results straight from a phone, tablet, or computer, calculate and provide age adjusted times, and connect seamlessly with the CTT website (🔗) and CTT | Timing (🔗). No extra accounts, no hidden costs - just straightforward tools that make running your event smoother and more professional.
With CTT | Live you’ll:
- Deliver a better experience for riders and supporters with instant results.
- Save time by reducing manual data entry and avoiding duplicate work.
- Keep everything in one place, with results linked directly to your official CTT event.
- Use powerful features like multi-device access, and big-screen displays.
And because it’s part of the CTT system, it’s free to use for all CTT events.
2. Who is CTT | Live for
- Open event organisers
- Club event organisers
- Timekeepers / volunteers who support results entry
- Riders and spectators to view instant updates
3. Enabling CTT | Live
- Using CTT | Live is simple, and you don’t need to install anything. The app runs in your web browser on a phone, tablet, or computer, and is directly linked to the CTT website.
- CTT | Live must be enabled on an event basis which may be done by anyone that has access to the event's admin page.Â
- Select Timing & Results Setup as shown in the screenshot.
- Check CTT | Live enabled (arrow 1 below)
- The Live Results Board (🔗) may be configured to show various leader boards. In the CTT | Live Setup section, check the boxes next to the leader boards you would like displayed (arrow 2). Example leader boards shown below (🔗)
- Scroll down to the bottom of the screen and add any Administrators who need access to add and update finish times using the app (arrow 1 below). To do so, start typing their name and select from the list provided. They will need to be registered users but do not need to have any other permissions.
- Click save (arrow 2)
4. Accessing CTT | Live - Admin
- Once configured, admin users may access CTT | Live for their event via the CTT | Live button on their event's admin page.
- Named Administrators access CTT | Live directly from the website's homepage (🔗). Hover over (or tap on a phone) My Account and select CTT | Timing.
- Then select the event by clicking in the box associated with your event.
5. Applying finish times to CTT | Live
- Riders must be on a Start List to be given a finish time / status within CTT | Live. For open events this is a given; for club events, on-the-line riders must be manually added at sign-on (🔗).Â
- All actions described in this Knowledge Base article can be carried out on a computer, tablet, or phone. The screenshots shown below use a phone, as this is the device most organisers and administrators are likely to use during the event itself.
- Select Event Control (arrow 1 below) to be presented a grid of buttons, each representing a rider.Â
- As each rider's time is recorded, select the corresponding button (arrow 2) and type in their time or DNS/DNF/DQ and save (arrow 3). The button will turn green to indicate that the time has been accepted and updated on the Live Results Board (🔗) but may still be amended.Â
Â
6. The Live Results Board
The Live Results Board screen shows the current standings, live, as the event progresses and finish times are added in Event Control.
- It works on phones and tablets but looks best on a laptop or projector - ideal for use at race HQ for example.
- Every time a rider's finish time is recorded, the board updates instantly.
- It calculates current positions (1st, 2nd, 3rd etc.) and displays both overall result and result by category.
- The layout, number of positions shown in the category boxes and font size are configurable via the settings button, at the bottom right of the screen (yellow arrow below).
- The example below:
- Displays Classification and Age Band leaderboards, configured as part of Live Setup as explained above (🔗)
- Is set to display the full rider list in 3 columns and show the top 3 riders in each category leaderboard - configured via Settings as shown in the screenshot immediately above.
- Live Results Board can also be configured (🔗) to display Team Leader Boards. "Team" in this context means club. Display Mixed Team Leaderboards will display the fastest three riders of each club as a team, irrespective of classification, and the next fastest three as a second team, and so on. Display Classification Team Leaderboards splits by Open / Female
7. Accessing Live ResultsÂ
- As a rider or spectator there are various ways to access the results board:
- Using a phone's QR code reader, a rider / spectator may scan the QR code from the results board itself (for example from the screen displayed at the event's HQ), and get taken straight to the results board on their phone (yellow arrow in screenshot above)
- From the event's page on the website, select the CTT | Live label as shown below
Â
- Alternatively, to view a list of current enabled CTT | Live events (i.e. events scheduled during the past week and following month), from the homepage, select Discover ➜ CTT | Live
- To view a list of historical results where CTT | Live was enabled, select Discover ➜ Find Results, then select the CTT | Live checkbox (arrow 1 below)
- From either list (current or historical), select the CTT | Live label to be taken straight to the Results Board for that event (arrow 2)
Â
8. Applying results from CTT | Live to the CTT system
Results added using CTT | Live can be uploaded directly from the Results Board to the event on the main system at the click of a button. Before doing so, please make any corrections needed via Event Control (🔗)
Locate the admin page for your event and select Results as explained in parts 1 and 2 of this Knowledge Base article (🔗)
Confirm course, distance and total number of riders and then select Import Results
You will be asked to confirm that you want to import from CTT | Live. Once imported you will have the option to review and amend if required. Amendments must be made via Event Control (🔗) and re-imported from CTT | Live.
Once you are ready, click the Publish Results button to apply the results to your event on the system and to email them to riders.
9. Appendix - Adding on-the-line riders to a club event
If using CTT | Live for club events, all riders must:
- Be registered (🔗) on the system
- Have a valid rider profile (🔗)
- Be entered into the event. If they have not entered online, they will need to be entered manually (🔗)
- Have a start number and start time (🔗) on a provisional or finalised start list
The process to follow to achieve this on the line at the start of your event is outlined below
- Rider Registration
Riders not registered with Cycling Time Trials must do so when they sign on. This takes a few minutes and can be done on a phone. From the homepage, www.cyclingtimetrials.org.uk, click Login and select Create Account. More detail here (🔗)
- Creating a valid Rider Profile
In order for a rider's entry to pass validation, he/she must have completed certain details within their rider profile. To do so, they should click My Account from the home page and select My Rider Profile, then complete all the details. If they have no third-party insurance, or don't remember the details, they should enter 'none'.  More detail here (🔗)
- Creating manual entries
The organiser must ensure all riders have entered or have been entered into the event. Online entries will already be complete. The organiser must add any new entries manually as the riders sign on (after they have registered and completed their rider profiles). To add manual entries, access your event's admin page and select Entries, then Add Entry. More detail here (🔗)
- Handling withdrawals
Any online entries that cannot make the event should either withdraw their entry themselves or have their entry rejected by the organiser. To reject an entry, access your event's admin page and select Entries, check the box next to the rider's name and select Actions ➜ Reject
- Creating a provisional Start List
Once all entries are in, the organiser must create a provisional start list. CTT | Live uses this to populate the buttons in Event Control (🔗). Go to your event’s Admin Page and select Start List. Apply rider numbers directly in the grid. Start times are calculated automatically. For example, if the event has a start time of 19:00, and you have selected riders to set off at one-minute intervals (the default), then rider 1 will set off at 19:01; rider 2 at 19:02 etc. More detail here (🔗). You do not need to finalise the start list
You can still reject no-shows, add new manual entries and reorder riders by editing the start list provided it hasn’t been finalised, and you’ve followed prerequisite steps above.
